NEW YORK – Miami Beach police said Wednesday they have filed a rape and sexual assault case against a former police officer who they say was a victim of an attempted rape.
In a statement, the police department said it is conducting an internal investigation into a report of an assault against the former officer, who was a member of the Miami Beach precinct where the alleged incident took place.
It was not immediately clear if the officer would be criminally charged.
The statement did not provide details about the alleged attack.
The Miami Beach Fire-Rescue Department and the Miami Police Department did not immediately return requests for comment.
The police department did not name the officer, but said he is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
